At the time that we moved into our apartment, the At Home nearest to us was closing and had a clearance on all of their items. As if I didn't already love At Home, this makes it even harder for me to resist the temptation of picking up everything I liked and putting it in my shopping cart! Alas, I have to say that the clearance and closing down of the store was not good news to me, despite the savings. That's because I didn't want this store to close! I had to make sure to come back as much as I could and buy exactly everything I wanted and not end up with regrets later on when the store closes.
There were so many things I could have chosen but I picked up just 4 items that spoke to me the most for this particular project. The first thing that popped out at me was this painting of a shell on the beach. Something about it just connected with me and it was an obvious choice.
In another aisle, I found the "Life's a Beach" sign. This one took a bit of decision making 'cause there was another sign that had a lighter aqua color that I liked, with the words "Welcome to the Beach House." But I thought the phrase in the first sign reflected my personally more so I went with that one.
Later, we found the gray anchor.
What kind of nautical/coastal theme is it without a good statement anchor!
This is what it looks like with a brick wall.
We were about to leave the store when we found the perfect boat paddle! Or... oar...
Anyways, this colorful piece was actually made to act as a clothing/towel hanging bar, as it had hooks screwed into the handle. However, when I found it, it was missing 1 of its 3 hooks, so I did what any thrifty, sensical person would do... ask for a discount at checkout! In this case the manager did end up giving me a couple dollars off. So I got lucky since I wasn't even trying to use it as a hanger anyway!
How to make the wall:
- Use Pinterest for ideas
- Decide on a theme (mine was coastal/nautical obviously)
- Find a home decor store (BONUS if items are on clearance)
- At Home
- Home Goods
- Google decor/furniture stores in your local area
- Website like Wayfair, Overstock, Etsy, Amazon
- Search for unique, one-of-a-kind pieces that match your theme
- Use Command Strips (or nails) to secure on wall
- Be flattered by compliments from your guests
